SUPERVALU Announces Lawsuits in Connection with Data Breach
On October 16, 2014, SUPERVALU announced in its quarterly 10-Q filing that as of August 2014, there has been two class action lawsuits initiated against SUPERVALU. The lawsuits derive from the August 14, 2014 announcement of a data breach between June 22, 2014 and July 17, 2014. McPeak v. SUPERVALU INC., filed August 18, 2014, alleges violations of the Federal Stored Communications Act and Illinois Personal Information Protection Act as a result of the criminal invasion. The second lawsuit, Hanff v. SUPERVALU INC., filed on August 25, 2014, alleges breach of contract, violation of Minnesota Deceptive Trade Practices Act, negligence, and invasion of privacy. Plaintiffs in both actions are seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
